Widen the Gates - Karlyna Gelderman

Sunday, August 11th, 2024

Key Scripture: Psalm 24

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
    the world, and all who live in it;
for he founded it on the seas
    and established it on the waters.

Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?
    Who may stand in his holy place?
The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
    who does not trust in an idol
    or swear by a false god.

They will receive blessing from the Lord
    and vindication from God their Savior.
Such is the generation of those who seek him,
    who seek your face, God of Jacob.

Lift up your heads, you gates;
    be lifted up, you ancient doors,
    that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
    The Lord strong and mighty,
    the Lord mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates;
    lift them up, you ancient doors,
    that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is he, this King of glory?
    The Lord Almighty—
    he is the King of glory.

1. God - Psalm 24: 1-2

  • The whole world belongs to God and everything in it.  Our world would not exist without God.

2. People - Psalm 24:3-6

  • Who can come to God?
  • Someone without sin - we are only made clean by the power and death of Jesus
  • This is why Christ paid the price for us so that we can be with God and have that close relationship with Him.

3. Gates - Psalm 24:7-10

  • Make  yourself Bigger because God is coming.  Open wide the Gates.  The Gates are too small for God!
  • Lift up and widen the Gates so the King of Glory may come in!

Question - "How Big are Your Gates?"

  • Do you have room for Him to welcome Him in?
  • Do we treat God like a delivery man? ("Just leave the package at the door and I will come get it when I'm ready...!")

This is the King of Glory!

  • We whould welcome Him with Awe and excitement - ready to accept and welcome whatever He has for us with gratitude and humility!
  • The King of Glory knows your name and is coming to visit you!

Who is this King of glory?
    The Lord strong and mighty,
    the Lord mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates;
    lift them up, you ancient doors,
    that the King of glory may come in.
Who is he, this King of glory?
    The Lord Almighty—
    he is the King of glory.
