These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. ¹⁵ I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! ¹⁶ So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. ¹⁷ You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. ¹⁸ I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.

¹⁹ Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. ²⁰ Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

²¹ To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne. ²² Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

• This letter was meant to be a wake-up call!
• The Christians in Laodicea were all talk but no walk!
• They were just going through the motions but not serious about their walk with God...

1. Christ is the Investigator

• I am the AMEN - His word is truth!
• He is the Way, the Truth and the Life!
• He is the faithful witness

2. The Ruler of God's Creation

• He is qualified to evaluate us

Laodicea

• banking and financial city
• center for fashion and medicine
• proud, wealthy and independent
• this was a city of compromise

"You gotta stand for something of you'll fall for anything!"

1st Indictment: They were LUKEWARM 

• Lukewarm - neither hot nor cold, not appealing, apathetic
• The professed to be Christians but had no desire for a relationship with God
• They made a mockery of Christ through their indifference

2nd Indictment: Self-sufficient

• They were rich and thought they didn't need a thing (they thought they didn't need God)

Gold refined by fire - trade the treasure of earth for the eternal treasures of Heaven

• Gold = righteousness, purity, holiness

It's ironic that Laodicia produced eye ointment to help with vision yet they were spiritually blind.

vs 20  ^"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me."

• Will you let Him in? Don't leave Him outside knocking!

Jesus is in hot pursuit of His Creation and He longs for an intimate relationship with those who have ears to hear!

Open the door:

• Door to your heart
• Door to your future

What is your spiritual temperature?

• Hot
• Cold
• Lukewarm

We need to response and take action!

• not a wishy-washy interest
• 100% ALL IN!

He's knocking and standing outside the door, waiting for you to let Him in!
