"What's Gotten into You?" | Pastor Ben Kellert

Colossians 3:12-15   "Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful."

Our New Wardrobe:

  • Compassion
  • Kindness
  • Humility
  • Gentleness
  • Patience
  • Tolerance
  • Forgiveness
  • Forbearance
  • Love
  • Unity

John 14:27   "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

The Peace given to us by Christ is:

  1. An Inner quietness in the midst of swirling chaos
  2. A calm sense of tranquility in the center of tribulation.
  3. A feeling of harmony amid the worlds blaring discord.
  4. An experience of ease and rest in our hearts and minds.

Colossians 3:16a "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly..."

  • The Message version: "Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness. Let the Word of Christ—the Message—have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives."

The word of God is what sustains us in the good times and bad times.

Matthew 4:3b & 4   "...tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."

  • We need to consume the words of God.

Psalm 119:11  "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you."

*We don't read the word for information but for Impartation.*

*Jesus doesn't want to inform us, He wants to Transform us!*

James 4:8 "Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded."

The Word of God contains Power!

  • Hebrews 4:12 "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."

What's gotten into you?  The Word!?  It changes us and transforms us!

Seeking the Lord is not an option especially now - we need His word deep in our hearts!  It's crucial...vital!

  • Proverbs 8:17 "I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me."
  • Psalm 145:18 "The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth."
  • Deuteronomy 4:29  "But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul."
  • Hebrews 11:6  "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."
  • Psalm 63:1 "You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water."
  • 1 Chronicles 16:10-11 "Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. 11 Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always."
  • Philippians 3:10  "I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,"
  • Psalm 119:105 "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."

We must pursue passionately our Lord Jesus Christ and devour His Word... let His Word be What's Gotten into You!
