"True Spirituality?" - Special Guest Speaker - Pastor Mark MacKnight, President of Vanguard College, Edmonton, AB

What is true spirtuality?

  • How often you go to church?
  • How much you read your bible?
  • Where you serve?
  • How much you tithe?
  • etc...?

What's the most important commandment?

  • Love God & Love People: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind

True Spirtuality isn't just "Jesus & Me"... it's "Jesus & We"

Hebrews 10:19-25  "Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

  • Since we have boldness to enter the Sanctuary through the blood of Jesus...
  • Since we have a great high priest over the house of God...
  • We are the temples of the Holy Spirit - God dwells within us.

We don't just have access to Christ's presence, we have an advocate in Jesus!

God made a way for us to have access and a relationship with Him!

3 Things We Should Do:

1 - Let us Draw Near to God

  • Come with full assurance
  • Hes's made a way, so come to Him!

2 - Let us Hold On to the confession of our Hope

  • Look up to Him
  • Hope is a noun - a sure thing!

3 - Let us Watch Out for One Another to Provoke Eachother to love and good works

  • Stir on, stir up, encourage one another
  • Help people want to do good
  • Set a good example, prompt
  • Who are you watching out for?
  • Encourage eachother to do good and grow in your walk with God
  • Pray for and support one another
  • Who's on your radar?

Strive for unity and peace with eachother as a family and body of Christ:

  • Meet together
  • Pray together
  • Serve together

The words we speak are important...

  • Choose words of Affirmation and Edification ("Speak Life!")

Serve, pray, give, love...

We are the Church - we are the Body of Christ - set a good example and lead and live by example!

Speak the truth in love - love, correction, accountability as brothers and sisters in Christ - we are in this together!

  • Love first... Remember, "people don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care!"
  • "Love one another as I have loved you..."

What did Jesus pray for?

  1. "Father, be glorified in me", no matter what...
  2. Prayed for disciples
  3. Prayed for you and I

Don't drift, draw near, hold on and encourage!
