Stirring Up Our Spiritual Gifts | Pastor Ben Kellert

If someone repeats themselves, then you know that they must feel that what they are saying must be important but if they say it 3X, then they must really want you to hear them and act on it!

  • 3x in the bible, God tells the church to use their talents for His Glory!

1 - Hear it - listen, pay attention

2- Take it to heart - understand, absorb the meaning

3- Live it out! DO what He's asking you to do!

God is serious about His people using the gifts He's given them for His kingdom.

Romans 12:4-8  "Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. 6 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. 7 If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. 8 If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly."

  • God has designed His church to function like a body
  • We all belong to each other in the body
  • We are designed to work together - we need each part in order for the rest to function as smoothly as it should.

Spiritual Gifts: 1 Corinthians 12:4-6  "4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. 5 There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 6 God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said."

  • Wisdom
  • Knowledge
  • Faith
  • Healing
  • Miraculous Powers
  • Prophecy
  • Discernment/Distinguishing between Spirits
  • Speaking in Tongues
  • Interpretation of Tongues
  • Verse 27: "All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it."
  • The moment you accept Christ as a Christian, you are no longer here for yourself...you are not a part of the Body of Christ and must fulfill your role. 
  • The body only functions as well as it's individual parts are able to function.

Rolls in the Church:

  • Apostle: one who is sent out
  • Prophet: one who is chosen to speak for God
  • Evangelist: takes the word of God to those who haven't heard it yet.
  • Pastor: helper, shepherd, appointed to lead a congregation (flock); cares for and protects the sheep
  • Teacher: appointed to instruct or train sytematically.  To hand down tradition.

Purpose of these Rolls - Ephesians 4:12  "Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ."
